Does the thought of throwing a holiday party send you into convulsions?
Then you’ll have to come check out Holidays with the Holmans hosted by yours truly and my husband, David Holman, executive chef of Campo Reno and Campo Sparks.
We throw a lot of parties at our house and always try to do it with style. First, we concentrate on the food. The other most important thing? Don’t run out of booze. Because if I have to show up at a child’s birthday party, they should, at the very least, provide me with a cocktail.
For these and more tips, we are hosting a party primer on all things entertaining, Holidays with the Holmans, on Dec. 6 at the Pavilion at Rancharrah, 6001 Talbot Lane. We’ll start the evening out with festive bubbly punch and feature wines paired specifically to the dishes. David Holman will do a cooking demonstration of how to make the perfect roast beef, and I will discuss how to choose and pair wines for a party.
On the food front, there will be appetizers like roast beef and Yorkshire puddings; pork belly skewers; wild mushroom arancini; smoked salmon and caramelized onion tart with dill crème fraiche; country terrine; assorted cheese and charcuterie plate with housemade breads, jams and jellies; and special desserts from our family kitchen.
In 1957, casino magnate Bill Harrah embarked on creating the perfect place to call home, Rancharrah. Throughout the years, celebrities like Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Bennett, Debbie Reynolds, Don Rickles, Ann-Margret, Kenny Rogers, John Denver, Glen Campbell, Steve Martin and more were guests at the estate. For nearly six decades, the property remained within the Harrah family until acquired by Reno Land Inc. in 2016.
