Housing Complex Breaks Ground at Rancharrah

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) — A long-awaited Reno housing development finally broke ground Thursday at Rancharrah. The land surrounding the historic mansion will be developed into 611 housing units, ranging in size from condos to estate lots, some of which will be move-in ready by 2017. Around 25 acres of office, commercial and retail space will also be added.

Though there will be many changes to the property, developers are adamant on maintaining the theme of Rancharrah to honor the legacy of Bill Harrah.
“We wanted to take the reins from him and keep the integrity and the history of the property, keep certain elements, try to tie the mansion and the equestrian center into the entire theme,” Reno Land Development Managing Partner Chip Bowlby said.
Mayor Hillary Schieve was initially skeptical of this project and its impact on Reno, but her perspective quickly changed after touring the property with developers.
“I was so impressed for their love and respect for the history of this incredible property,” Mayor Schieve said.
Reno Land Developers decided to keep the 52,000-square-foot equestrian center and convert the mansion into a sports and social club.
